Modulation of Spatial Distribution of Aerosol Species by the Monsoon Intraseasonal Oscillation over South Asia

This study investigated the spatial and temporal modulation of aerosol species by monsoon intraseasonal oscillation (MISO) using Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) reanalysis Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite observations from 2003 to 2019. The climatological distribution showed long-range transport sea-salt dust Indian landmass Arabian Sea desert regions Peninsula, respectively. While organic matter, black carbon, sulfate originated mainly in India. In eight MISO phases, southwesterly/westerly strengthening/weakening was responsible for distribution. During break active transition phases 2-5, strong southwest winds transported aerosols region. active-to-break 5-7, strengthened Peninsula. over subcontinent peaked 6 7. 2-5 (6-8, 1), direction along Indo-Gangetic Plain influenced increased levels sulfate, carbon western/northwestern (eastern/northeastern) These dynamic changes caused region influence shortwave longwave radiation balances that can circulation.
